Twins have uncanny feelings that sometimes cannot be explained, and for Kaylyn and Cassidy Cromer, they took the track in last week’s 3A state meet at the same time. Their parents watched from the stands as Kaylyn won the triple jump and Cassidy won the pole vault event. The Christiansburg High School seniors were excited about sharing the moment at Roanoke College.
“It was awesome to have Kaylyn win along side of my victory. I knew we had it in us, and the good Lord helped us get the job done,” Cassidy said earlier this week. She won the pole vault at nine feet, six inches while her sister was busy winning the triple jump with a mark of 36-3.25.
Kaylyn also admitted Saturday’s wins were special.
“I was able to share the reward and excitement of a state championship with my twin sister. We have both worked very hard, had a lot of people praying for us and had faith that the Lord would exalt us. Winning a state championship is something that I will never forget and it makes it that much more special that my twin sister also won,” she said.
Cassidy started vault after her track coach encouraged her. “I have been able to reach these heights because of my awesome coaches and just because of my dedication,” she said.
She hopes to continue to pole vault in the outdoor season and take a shot at the school record of 10-3.
Meanwhile Kaylyn has been excelling on the track for several years and has signed a letter of intent to continue her career at Liberty University this coming fall.
“I expected to have a good jumping season because of how hard I worked in the off season. I really hoped to see the results and I am very thankful that I did. I have been able to improve because after last outdoors track season, only took two weeks off, and once those two weeks were over I worked on my strength, speed and explosiveness every day until this indoor season began,” she said.
Kaylyn believes the success indoors will give her an opportunity to do even better outdoors this spring.
