At the Christiansburg Town Council meeting last week, the council approved a curbside recycling contract for the Town of Christiansburg with service expected to begin in July.
Christiansburg residents will have recycled materials picked up at their home on garbage pick-up days twice a month. Each family will receive a recycle container similar to the one presently used for their trash.
Curbside recycling has several advantages:
- It is neat, clean and green
- It reduces land fill use, and lowers land fill tipping fees.
- Increases the amount of materials recycled by the residents of Christiansburg by an estimated 40 percent.
- Helps to establish a better environment within the town.
To pay for the curbside recycling, residents of Christiansburg will see a 5$ increase added to their garbage collection fee on their monthly water bill.
This is a small amount for a great service for the community. Adding to the new garbage methods, Christiansburg will have a 21st century system that we can all be proud of.
In the coming months, look for additional information from the towns public information office.
