Blacksburg’s Citizens’ Institute classes will be held on Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. beginning April 2. Meals are included and casual dress is encouraged.
The 10-week course is free and participants must be 18 years of age or older, and be residents or work in the Town of Blacksburg.
Called ‘fun’ on the Blacksburg Town website, the citizen institute classes are for anyone interested in being involved in the community and knowledgeable about how a town actually manages its resources, identifies its strengths and challenges, involves its citizens, develops wisely and fairly and works to include all of its citizens.
Numerous people currently in local public office and serving on advisory committees have been prepared by participating in citizen institutes.
In its fifteenth year, the course fills up quickly and is limited to the first 25 signups.
