It was yet another historic day for the Radford women’s track & field program as one school record fell and two more top-10 results were recorded on the second and final day of the 2018 Adidas Raleigh Relays.
Last weekend at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational, the 4×100-meter relay team of Kierra Henderson, Amelia Reynolds, Alexis Stafford and La’Tisha Chambers posted the second-fastest time in program history at 47.20 seconds. That time was only .19 seconds away from the school record set by Brandon, Caple, Carter and Keener at the 2006 Big South Championships.
Fast forward to Saturday at the Paul Derr Track & Field Complex, where the Highlanders had that record in their sights. Racing out of lane one, the quartet succeeded in breaking the school record with a time of 46.93 seconds, placing second in their section and seventh overall at one of the toughest meets in the nation.
Reynolds then took that success to the 200-meter dash where she topped the field, crossing the finish line in 24.17 seconds. That marks a new personal record and ranks second in program history behind Khadijah Conda’s 23.93 from the Johnny Mathis Open in 2000.
Representing the Highlanders in the field portion of the meet, sophomore Alexis Walton reached a season-best 10.74 meters (35’3″) in the triple jump.
Ending the weekend on a high note, Ryan Paine, Chambers, Karah Foster and Reynolds finish the 4×400-meter relay with a huge season best of 3:52.87.
It goes down as the fifth-fastest 4×4 in school history and easily tops Radford’s previous best this season of 4:08.81.
Radford now turns its attention to South Carolina’s Gamecock Invitational scheduled for Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
