The Christiansburg High School Thespian Troupe invites children to the third Royal Tea from 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, April 12 at the high school (100 Independence Blvd., NW).
Brunch will be served and guests are invited to wear their favorite costumes. This is the third Royal Tea the CHS Thespian troupe members have sponsored.
Tickets are 6$ to help support the school’s Thespian troupe covering student costs for field trips and special events.
This year they traveled to State Thespian conferences in Virginia Beach. Honing their craft near and far, the group travels to New York City as well as Virginia’s Barter Theater and the American Shakespeare Center.
In both the theater world and Neverland, it’s always good to be well-connected.
“It turns out that many CHS students are “friends” with many princesses, pirates, and storybook characters!” theater teacher, Mikala Witten, wrote in a press release.
Hosts at previous Royal Teas have included Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, Peter Pan, Rapunzel, Tinkerbell, and Princess Leia.
This year hosts will be joined by Captain Hook, Jack Sparrow and at least 15 of their friends. Rumor has it; Darth Vader and storm troopers may arrive.
Delightful for both guests and hosts, the event is training for young thespians.
“The even is an opportunity for CHS Thespians to develop and maintain a well-known character for a sustained period of time as they interact with children and parents,” Witten wrote. “It’s an exciting way for young actors to have up-close and immediate feedback on their “performance,” as well as experience the joy of live performance.”
The menu will include fresh fruit, muffins, tea, lemonade and many special storybook treats such as fairy popcorn and edible magic wands.
As thespian troupe sponsor, Witten has coordinated and attended both previous events saying that parents and children have been quite complimentary about their experiences.
“Parents love it,” she said. “They like the interaction the characters have with the children, especially the photo ops, dance parties and singing because many of the thespians have good voices, and craft centers for pirate-tatooing and tiara-making.”
