Talia Douglas claimed the first Big South weekly award this season for Radford University as she was named Big South Freshman of the Week by the conference office on Monday.
Douglas put on an offensive clinic in three games against Winthrop. She went a team-best 6-for-12 (.500) in the three games over the weekend and had an impressive 1.167 on base plus slugging percentage. The freshman tallied two multi-hit games, including a 3-for-4 day in game two of the series, which tied a season-high.
The Melbourne, Fla., native drove in three runs and scored five runs of her own. She set a season-high for runs scored in a game with two and followed that up with two more runs in the ensuing contest. Two of her six hits were doubles and helped her batting average jump to .352 for the season. The .352 average 10th best average in the Big South, currently.
She not only did it with her bat, but also with her glove. She recorded 10 assists on the weekend after moving to the hot corner only a few games ago. Six of her 10 assists came in the series finale.
Douglas and company will return to the diamond on Tuesday night to battle Virginia at 6 p.m., before traveling to Biues Creek, N.C., for a three game series against Campbell beginning on Friday.
