Mr. Mark David Piechoski, 43, passed away of a brief unexpected illness on March 30th, 2018 while vacationing with his family in Myrtle Beach, SC.
A longtime resident of Blacksburg, VA, Mark was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 5th, 1974. He attended Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia and then graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 1996. He subsequently completed his Physical Therapy degree from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2000 and completed his MBA from Virginia Tech School of Business in 2016.
Mark was a skilled Physical Therapist, Certified Athletic Trainer, and Strength and Conditioning Specialist who served multiple communities throughout Virginia. He specialized in sports medicine, serving most recently as a Rehabilitation Supervisor for Carilion Clinic. He built his career through leadership and clinical roles within HCA, Williams PT, University PT, and notably, Virginia Tech Athletics.
While working in Blacksburg, Mark met the love of his life Lynn Anne. Lynn Anne shared Mark’s passion as an avid cyclist, a fan of good food, and a music lover who traveled to see his favorite bands, Jimmy Buffett and The Dave Matthews Band in concert. He loved watching and attending Virginia Tech football games and NASCAR events with friends and family. Mark was especially proud of this year’s Super Bowl Champion, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mark is survived by his parents, Paul and Mary Ann Piechoski, his wife, Lynn Anne (Bolton), his children Madison Elle, age 7, and Aleksander Forbes, age 6, his grandmother Mary A. Smith, and preceded by his grandparents Earnest A. Smith, Hedwig Coleman and Francis John Piechoski.
Mark was a devoted husband, father and son, known for his ever-optimistic outlook on life. He was adored by many throughout the community and continues to be a role model for us all. A visitation was held at the McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg, VA on Friday April 6th, 2018, and a funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 7th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg, VA. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley. Deacon Mike Ellerbrock and Pastor Tommy McDearis will officiate.
