Blacksburg High School’s Band Benefit Bash will be held Saturday, April 14 at 7-10 p.m. at Blacksburg High School.
This fundraiser features student performance and local bands to raise money for the BHS Band Boosters and new instruments.
According to Band Booster President Judy Hole, this event was created last year to help fund the Band Booster program, which supports the BHS band and its students’ endeavors.
The parent-operated Boosters assist in the purchase and maintenance of uniforms, instruments, and other equipment not regularly provided by the school and supplements encourages educational trips and concerts.
Scholarships for band trips, camps and other activities are made available to students to reduce financial obstacles to their musical experience.
Recently, the BHS Band Boosters have expanded their support to the Blacksburg Middle School Band programs.
Since both BHS and BMS have many instruments that are over 50 years old and showing defects like multiple dents, the Band Boosters want to help purchase new instruments. Brass instruments are the most critical need and a good tuba can cost $7,000.00.
This BHS Benefit Bash will feature BHS students demonstrating their own talents musically with playing instruments and/or singing, either in small groups or solo performances.
Three local bands are donating their time to perform. Flight One is a local band that performs original pieces with a blues and progressive rock background. This will be their first time performing for the Benefit Bash.
Returning for a second year are Sundays with Desi and The Kind. Sundays with Desi are a local Blacksburg-based acoustic rock band that began as a group of friends who wanted to play music and jam on a Sunday afternoon.
The Kind has been playing in the NRV and Roanoke areas since 1986 as a classic rock and Grateful Dead band.
Some of the BHS students at the Bash were taught privately by members of The Kind at Blacksburg’s Mainstream Music.
The Band Boosters have secured prizes from local merchants to be raffled off: gift cards, gift baskets, and hotel stays, etc.
All proceeds from the ticket purchases and the raffle sales will fund the Band Boosters’ efforts. Admission to the Bash is $10.00 per person with a maximum of $25.00 for family attendance.
