Blacksburg Public Library (200 Miller Street, Blacksburg) will host a plant swap, craft swap, and a book sale this month.
“It’s gonna be a really busy month. We’re really excited,” Monena Hall, supervisor at the Blacksburg Public Library said about the whole month of April at the Blacksburg Public Library.
The library will host its first Craft Supply Swap from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Too many pompoms, pipe-cleaners, feathers and yarn? Bring them to the library to swap and meet other crafters who know what to do with all that felt.
“This is our first ever Craft Swap, so it’s exciting, and whatever is left over, we’ll find a local elementary school or a daycare center who can benefit from extra supplies,” Hall said.
Then the ‘Five-dollar-Bag-of-Books’ sale will be held Thursday, April 19- Sunday 22.
“You come in, pay $5 for a bag at the desk, then you go into the community room and fill it up with as many books as you want,” Hall said.
“There have been lots of book donations and that’s a wonderful and every dime raised will go directly back to Friends of the Library, which support programs like the summer reading program, author talks, and book clubs. All the terrific things,” she said.
The Spring Plant and Seed Swap will be held in the meeting room beginning at 2 p.m. on Sat. Apr. 28.
“Perhaps you have too many daylilies or your irises or your holly is completely out of control,” Hall said. “It goes very fast.”
Bring plants and seeds by 2 pm, and the swap will begin at 2:30 pm.
Beginning gardeners are welcome. Anyone who does not have seeds can buy some inexpensive ones at the local Dollar stores, usually multiple packs for a dollar.
Experienced gardeners will be attending, and will answer questions about plant care as time allows. It’s a good idea to bring a box or some plastic bags to carry your swaps away in.
