David Gene Welcher, 80, of Elliston, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by those he loved. He was born in Roanoke on December 25, 1937, to the late James “Paul” and Mabel Welcher. He is also preceded in death by his wife Martha; son William “Scott”; sister Jeanette; and brothers Randolph, Joe and Tommy.
He was retired from Maid Bess Corporation and enjoyed repairing lawn mowers. He will be fondly remembered for helping others and his love for old westerns.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ferguson (Virgil) of Troutville, Va.; sisters Debbie (Glenn) Kanode, Salem, Va., and Brenda Dickerson, Mineral, Va.; grandchildren, Eddie Rigsby (Jess), Loria Trail (Leon), Brandi Welcher, Brandon Welcher (Ashley), Paula Louis (Ben); eight great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Special thanks to his grandson Brandon and wife Ashley for their loving care and to Heartland Hospice.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will have private services at a later date.
