Wilderness Road ride
The Wilderness Road Ride is a bicycling event that takes place Saturday, May 26. The ride is scenic and historical adventure through southwest Virginia’s beautiful New River Valley and follows part of Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Road. This is a ride for the whole family to enjoy, with something for everyone— four routes to choose from ranging from a 29 mile relaxed journey for novices, to a 79 mile challenge for the fittest cyclist.
All routes start and finish in Radford, at the Dedmon Center and Bisset Park. Registration Fees: Adults (age 18+) $30 before 4/15, $35 after; Youth (up to 17) $25 before 4/15, $30 after; and Family of 3-5 $75 before 4/15, $85 after.
Proceeds will benefit FCAE ministries and missions projects. FCA is 501c-3 non-profit organization.
Please remember, this is not a race. All traffic laws, signals, and signs must be obeyed. Personal SAG vehicles are not allowed. The Wilderness Road Ride starts at the Dedmon Center at Radford University.

Two Highlanders honored
Rodrigo Magalhaes and Alexandros Caldwell represented Radford as the Big South Conference announced its 2018 annual awards and all-conference teams on Monday morning.
Magalhaes was named Second Team All-Big South in singles, becoming the first Highlander to earn an all-conference nod in singles play since 2015. The sophomore went 12-10 overall on the season, holding a 7-7 clip in No. 1 singles. In Big South play, Magalhaes compiled a 4-3 record.
Caldwell was also named to the Big South All-Academic Team for the second straight season as the business management major possesses a 3.64 GPA.
Radford finished its season in the Big South Tournament quarterfinals on Monday morning, concluding the season with a 10-12 mark, a four-win improvement from a season ago.
Hokie men move up
Following a month of action, Virginia Tech track and field now sits No. 12 on the men’s side and No. 19 on the women’s side in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 rankings, announced on Monday afternoon.
The men moved up one spot while the women moved down one spot compared to last week’s poll, announced on April 9. Tech owns the highest-rated team on both sides out of the ACC for the third consecutive week.
Hokies number 12
Following a tough 9-7 loss at second ranked Boston College Saturday, the Virginia Tech lacrosse team moved up one spot to No. 12 in the weekly Inside Lacrosse Poll on Monday. It is the team’s highest ranking of the 2018 season.
Tech is back on the field on Saturday, April 21 for Senior Day inside Lane Stadium. First draw is set for 1 p.m. with coverage available on ACC Network Extra. Commonwealth Clash points and ACC Tournament seeding will be on the line when the No. 17 Virginia Cavaliers travel to Blacksburg for the regular season finale.
Two runners to Tech
Virginia Tech track and field and cross country director Dave Cianelli announced Wednesday that Jake Claricurzio and Matthew Harding will join the Hokies for the 2018-19 season.
Harding will come to Blacksburg following a two-year stint at UNC Asheville, where he qualified for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships as a freshman. The Conwy, North Wales native also won the 800 meters three times while competing in the Big South Conference Championships for the Bulldogs.
A graduate from Rydal Penrhos School during his prep career, Harding owns personal-best times of 1:47.92 in the 800 and 3:47.47 in the 1,500.
A native of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Claricurzio comes to Blacksburg as the PIAA state champion in the 4×800-meter relay during the 2017 outdoor season, as well as the PTFCA state champion in the 4×800 during this past indoor season.
Claricurzio, who will graduate from Central Bucks High School West this spring, owns a personal-best time of 1:53.83 seconds in the 800 meters.
