The Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg presented its 2017-2018 Youth Awards to Montgomery County Public School students at the Club’s May 7 meeting.
Juniors and seniors from Auburn, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and Eastern Montgomery High Schools were recognized in the areas of academic achievement, career and technical education and ethics.
Academic Achievement Awards were presented to the top five percent of the junior class based on grade point average to Carter Brockman, Miriam Jones, Hailey Wade, Keith Reed, and Holden Trimmer of Auburn High School; Madeline Emma Deck, Ailene Ching-Lee Edwards, Samuel Jacob Freeman, Erin Elizabeth Hansbrough, Bethany Serene Hsiao, Michael Tristan Hurst, Hanna Jane Jirsa, Mody Kutkut, Robert Dongyeoun Less, Sophia Rose Link, Stephanie Anne Tesoro Mendoza, William Hamilton Poland, Ruhan Shiva Prasad, Raaga Unmesha Vullikanti, Jonah Michael Winistorfer, Evan Xie, and Christopher Peng Zhang of Blacksburg High School; Madison Jane Adams, Alexandria Ruth Barrett, Haley Danielle Bragg, Esaias Matthew Burns, Hanna Grace Carr, Abby Reed Caudle, Adam Ray Caudle, Tyler Joseph Kwak, Nathanial Ryan Leichner, Jacob Theodore Lovelace, Julia Kate Moschella, Jamen Lelan Neel, Ian Matthew Schwartz, and Lane Neal Zuchowski of Christiansburg High School; and Joseph Gabriel Bolding, Vance David Garren, Brett Langdon Smith and Brooke Nichole Webster of Eastern Montgomery High School.
Career and Technical Education Awards were presented to two seniors from each school, nominated by their teachers, who have achieved excellence in their chosen field of vocational education.
Chase Underwood and Allie Gilmer of Auburn High School; Neha Mantukumar Hudait and Christian Taylor Vance of Blacksburg High School; Shalonda Joyce Dillard and Morgan David Hurst of Christiansburg High School; and Seneca Marie Bower and William Henry Rakes of Eastern Montgomery High School received this award.
Rotary Code of Ethics Awards were presented to the senior boy and girl at each school who best exemplify the traits delineated in the Rotary Four-Way Test: “Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned?
Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships? Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?” Alexis Gillie and Brian Wimmer of Auburn High School; Robyn Leila Mann and Joshua McKinley VanGilder of Blacksburg High School; Marshall Payne Keller and Bailey Makenna Linkous of Christiansburg High School; and Jayme Nicole Honaker and Ashby Tyler Mannon of Eastern Montgomery High School received this award.
Students were nominated by their teachers.

The Rotary Youth Awards, Professional Leadership and Citizen of the Year Awards, semi-annual blood screening event, youth development programs, and community projects as well as participation in Rotary International programs like PolioPlus and Group Study Exchanges exemplify this motto.
