Two more state titles are headed to Riner as the Auburn High School track teams took both the boys and girls crown Saturday in Harrisonburg.
Nolan Harris claimed the individual titles in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs for the boys, while Caitlin Dominy took the 800 and 1,600.
Team wise, the Auburn boys outdueled PH-Glade Spring 114.5 to 88. The girls’ finished with 124 points ahead of second place Patrick Henry-Glade Spring with 98 points.
Auburn set the stage Friday by winning the only two events held because of rainy weather, and then took control when the skies cleared a day later.
Madelyn Sale notched a state individual title with a throw of 39-1 3/4 in the shot put, a personal best. She finished second in the discus.
Tyler Wilson also took first place for Auburn in the 800 meters.
Jessica Musselman and Grace Hall would follow Dominy across the stripe in the 800 meters with Anna Kuchan sixth. Hall also finished fourth in the 3,200.
Auburn would also capture gold in the 4X800 relay with the team of Hall, Kuchan, Mussellman and Olivia Smoot.
The Lady Eagles also took spots 2-6 in the pole vault. Musselman finished fifth in the long jump and second in the triple jump.
On the boys’ side of the track,
Brandon Justice would claim second in the 400 meters and fourth in the 200 for Auburn.
Harris finish of 4:29.79 was almost 12 seconds ahead of second place Gavin Grossman of PH in the 1,600. He would lead an Auburn contingent across the line in the 3,200 as Adam Downs finish fourth and Peyton Hurd fifth.
Auburn’s 4X400 relay team of Eddie Tickle, Brandon Truman, Tyler Wilson and Brandon Justice brought home a third place finish, while
Pole vaulters Brandon Turman, Eddie Tickle, Luke Mathews and Carson East would finish 2-3-4-7 respectively to add to the team total.
Meanwhile Alfred Shean would take second in both the shot and discus. Adam Fithian was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot.
