The Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center will host world-renown mandolin player and vocalist Doyle Lawson with his group Quicksilver at the Great Road on Main, 100 West Main St. in Christiansburg at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 as part of The Crooked Road’s 2018 Mountains of Music Homecoming.
A reception at Great Mountain will launch the event at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar, and a “Meet & Greet” with the artists will follow the show.

A native of Sullivan County, Tennessee, Doyle Lawson began his career, as a teenager in 1963, as part of Jimmy Martin & The Sunshine Boys. He subsequently performed with bandleader J.D. Crowe and then as a member of the groundbreaking progressive bluegrass group, the Country Gentlemen.
In 1979, Lawson ventured out on his own to front Quicksilver. Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver soon established themselves as a leading group in bluegrass gospel music while garnering widespread respect for the group’s exquisite vocal arrangements.
With now nearly 40 albums to their credit, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, have won and been nominated for numerous Grammy, Dove, IBMA, Inspirational Country Music Association, and Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America awards. Lawson was named SPBGMA Mandolin Player of the Year, and, in 2012, was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Quicksilver’s current line-up features Josh Swift (guitar and vocals), Joe Dean (banjo and vocals), Dustin Pyrtle (guitar and vocals), Eli Johnston (bass and vocals), and Stephen Burwell (fiddle and vocals).
This concert is part of The Mountains of Music Homecoming, a nine-day music and cultural showcase event that stretches across the three hundred and thirty miles of The Crooked Road, Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail.
Montgomery County and nearby Floyd are hosting nine events over the nine days.
“With 24 featured concerts, three culinary-based Feastival events, and more than 70 cultural events, the Mountains of Music Homecoming encourages travelers to follow the music through the heart of The Crooked Road Region,” a recent announcement of the annual event said.
