Roadwork in June to affect traffic patterns in Christiansburg
Throughout June, contracted crews will be completing overnight paving on a portion of North Franklin Street.
The work, which will occur between Independence Boulevard and Depot Street, is expected to be complete by the second week of June. Crews are scheduled to begin work each night at 7 p.m. and finish by 6 a.m.
Also starting the first week of June, contracted crews will be paving a portion of westbound Roanoke Street near the intersection with Hampton Boulevard. This work will also occur overnight and is expected to last one or two nights.
Once paving on North Franklin Street is complete, crews will pave Cambria Street between North Franklin Street and the Cambria railroad crossing. This work will occur during the day.
These paving projects will cause lane closures but the streets will remain passable. Please use caution when traveling through the work zones.
Southgate Drive and Route 460 lane closures; Huckleberry Trail detour in Blacksburg
There will be alternating left and/or right lane closures (weather pending) on new Southgate Drive from the Southgate Interchange to Duck Pond Drive, through Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The lane closures will be set up between Duck Pond Roundabout and the Southgate Interchange. Please note no traffic disruptions will occur before noon on May 29.
There will be alternating right and left lane closures (weather permitting) on Route 460 East and West for paving. The lane closure will be in effect at night starting June 20. The lane closures will be set up approximately 0.80 mile East to 0.60 mile West of the Southgate Interchange.
Also, there will be 24-hour right lane closures on Route 460 East and West for extensions of ramps beginning through Wednesday, June 20. The right lane closures will be set up approximately 0.80 miles east to 0.60 miles west of the Southgate Interchange.
Intermittent flagging operations will occur on Huckleberry Trail at the Research Center Drive/Smoot Drive intersection from now until the end of construction activities. Closure of the Huckleberry Trail is in place at the intersection of Research Center Drive and Innovation Drive and at the intersection of Research Center Drive and Smoot Drive.
This closes a short loop and provides a safer work area. Pedestrian traffic will continue to use the Huckleberry Trail along Research Center Drive. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution in this area.

Construction has started on
the North Main Street project
in Montgomery County
Drivers can expect 24-hour left lane
closures in both directions through June
The North Main Street Project on Route 460, a project that will focus on enhancing safety at the intersection of North Main Street and Farmingdale Lane, has started. The new design focuses on improving safety by constructing a restricted crossing U-turn (R-CUT) that will eliminate left turns, the primary turning movement where crashes have occurred at this intersection.
Weather permitting, a 24-hour left lane closure on eastbound and westbound of Route 460 will be in place through the end of June to work on the new crossover inside the median.
As work continues through the summer, drivers can expect additional lane closures and a closure of North Main Street with a detour in place approximately mid-July.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for extra travel time and to watch the message boards for updated information on traffic pattern shifts and lane closures.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2018.
