Kroger’s Main Street store in Blacksburg now has a wine and growler bar.
The bar has 12 taps for beer and 16 for wine, with a mix of local, regional and national offerings.
The bar is open Monday through Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 6 p.m.
“With this bar, we offer our customers a wide variety of tap beer and wine as well as the ability to support local breweries in an entirely new way,” said Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division.
Growlers are reusable glass containers for beer or wine, usually 32 or 64 ounces. “By adding growlers, we can introduce customers to new and emerging brews that are only available on draft or specialty items they have never had to chance to taste,” added McGee.
Events such as Tap Takeovers, meeting the new brew masters and daily specials will be scheduled weekly.
“It’s a way to feature local and craft beers made in limited quantities.” For information, follow the store on TapHunter. Kroger will give customers a free pint growler when they buy a fill-up on Wednesdays. Kroger chose the Main Street store for the Wine and Growler Bar because customers there have demonstrated strong support for craft beer,” McGee said.
The store is undergoing a $4.6 million renovation, which is scheduled to be completed in early fall.
The Main Street Kroger employs approximately 220 associates and is open 24 hours, seven days a week.
