Mary Ann Ogg Simpkins, 74, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at her home in Radford after a brief illness. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Born on Sept. 16, 1943, Mary Ann was active in her church and numerous social groups and was cherished for the love and compassion that she extended to everyone and everything she encountered.
As a friend expressed with her passing, “Listening to the rain, it seems even nature weeps tonight for one who so revels in all its beauty and could make a stick sprout and bloom and sees the Creator in all.”
Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched with her kind and loving spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ellenor Ogg; and her daughter, Diana Lynn Porter.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Grover Lee Simpkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Lea and John Becouvarakis of Newport News, Ruth and Gray Snowden of Powhatan, and Sarah and Scot Duncan of Red Springs, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Samantha, Ben, Matthew, Mary, Sarah, Sophie, Lucas, Christopher, Caleb, Sarah and Scarlett; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Neil Wood and Rev. Bradley Boberg officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Family Cemetery in Snowville.
