The Southside Garden Club will be presenting a juried flower show entitled “Read me a Book” at 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Blacksburg Public Library.
The displays will be designed by the Southside Garden Club “interpreting some of your favorite books in flowers” the group’s announcement said.
The National Garden Club has over thirty design styles that can be used for flower show themes according to the club ranging from the traditional to the abstract.
The schedule, which is the “law of the show” can require a design style for a class or allow for designer’s choice. Designers think about principles including balance, proportion, and rhythm, and elements color, form, and space.
The designer selects a container, plant material, accessories, and their own skill and imagination to create a design.
“Come join us to experience the visual excitement of interpreting stories in flowers and showcasing the centuries-old art of flower arranging,” the club’s announcement said.
Local master designers, who have garnered awards at the national level, will be expressing their interpretations of the beauty of flowers and the magic of storytelling. Nationally accredited judges will be presenting awards for both designs and horticulture.
“Don’t miss this family friendly opportunity to experience the timeless beauty of words and flowers,” the club said.
The event is supported by the Blacksburg Public Library and the Southside Garden Club.
