VFW Scholarship Opportunity for kids grades 6-12
The Meadowbrook Library and VFW Post 4920 and Auxiliary are working together to provide the opportunity for students to enter for the VFW Scholarships-Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy.
These awards are open for students in grades 6-12. These scholarships can be worth up to $30,000 but you have to enter to be eligible.

The Mel Stoltzfus Family Oct. 2
Mel and Katie Ann Stoltzfus and all their children ages newborn to 18 from Halifax, Pennsylvania will “blend their voices and musical talents in a unique family presentation,” according to the the Gospel Express Ministries’ announcement, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Good Shepherd Baptist Church (155 Dunlap Dr. Christiansburg). 20th anniversary of the Glencoe Mansion, Museum Oct. 13
The milestone will be celebrated with a day of activities, food, the debut of the “1890s Dinner Party” history exhibit and a new art gallery show.
Highlighting the event will be three presentations that help place the history of the Glencoe Mansion (600 Unruh Drive, Radford) and of the Radford area into the sweeping story of the Civil War and the post-war period.
In addition, crafters and artisans will be demonstrating, and local businesses will be showcasing their goods and services.
The 43rd NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet Oct. 13
The Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County Branch of the NAACP will present its 43rd Freedom Fund Banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Inn at Virginia Tech. Doors open at 5p.m.
The speaker will be Tiffany Dean Loftin, national director of the NAACP Youth & College Division.
Tickets need to be purchased by Wednesday, Oct. 3. Prices are $50 for adults and $25 for those 21 and under. Tickets can be purchased from branch officers or online at www.mrfnaacp.org.
