Trunk-or-treat party Sunday
Lizardjens Bookkeeping Services will host a Trunk-or-Treat party from 3-5 p.m. (or as long as supplies last) on Sunday in the News-Messenger parking lot (302 W. Main St., Christiansburg).
The event celebrates the grand opening of the bookkeeping offices in the building. Candy will be dispensed from festively decorated car trunks with Zoo, Skeleton and Bat themes.
“My mother has a Christmas theme,” Jennifer Bertrand, Christiansburg resident and bookkeeper said. The bookkeepers speak English and Spanish.
Hahn Garden Wednesday Walks and Talks
Woody Plant Physiology from 12-1 p.m. Walk and Talk with Alex Niemiera who will discuss several fundamental aspects of woody plant physiology (how a trees and shrubs function). Understanding woody plant physiology is useful for propagating and growing landscape woody perennials as well as for diagnosing woody plant problems.
The Walk or Talk meets at the Peggy Lee Hahn Pavilion (200 Garden Lane). Parking passes are required for the garden’s visitor lot, so come a little early to grab a parking pass from the pavilion.
American Legion, Harvey-Howe-Carper Post 30 meeting Nov. 1
The American Legion, Harvey-Howe-Carper Post 30 will meet on at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Post Home (27 West St. in Radford).

Radford Public Library book sale Nov. 2 – Nov. 4
There will be a book sale at the Radford Public Library all day from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3, and from 1-5 p.m Sunday, Nov. 4.
“This sale will have many Christmas items, Christian novels, DVDs & CDs, “more unique books than normal, as well as all the usual categories,” according to the announcement. Adult hardback books are $1; paperbacks are $0.50, and children’s books are between $0.10-$0.50 each. There is always a table with free items and some specially priced books. Come and support the Radford Public Library.
Fellowship Christian Athletes Motocross Virginia Team benefit dinner Nov. 8
To raise funds for the team scholarship, the FCA team is hosting a benefit dinner 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Best Western (1501 Tyler Ave.) in Radford.
Tickets are $10. Dinner is vegetable lasagna, baked pasta, salad, bread and dessert with special guest Prentice Jeffers from Team Nasty-Fast and team members from the FCA MX Virginia team will be there.

NRV Glean Team potato drop Nov. 10
The NRV Glean Team is holding a potato drop on Saturday, Nov. 10th from 7-11 a.m. at the Upper Chicken Hill parking lot at Virginia Tech. This will be the fifth potato drop at Tech, but the first time for the fall.
“We have it all planned out, but have only had requests from 20 food providers,” the Glean Team said. “There are plenty of potatoes left to be given away. If your organization has not requested any yet, or if you know of anyone who would like Thanksgiving potatoes, we encourage more requests.”
We normally get almost 40 requests. The potatoes should be very fresh in early November because they were picked in September in Maine and kept cool and dry since then. For more information, contact John M. Galbraith at 540-231-9784
Montgomery Museum volunteer opportunities ongoing
A number of volunteer opportunities are available at the Montgomery Museum.
Docent: training is provided for individuals to staff the front office, answer calls, make sales, and interpret the history of the museum; events planning: planning and implementation of our major events annually, including Heritage Day, Mountains of Music, h’Arts on Main, Cruisin’ Christiansburg; Working with any of the committees: (Membership, Marketing, Events/Fundraising, Building Expansion, Building and Grounds); research with genealogy projects: working with the genealogy team; gardening: working in the garden with Virginia Master Gardeners.
