CAC closed for swim meet
The Christiansburg Aquatics Center will be closed Friday-Sunday, December 7-9 for the H2Okie Winter Invite swim meet. An estimated 1,200 swimmers from Virginia and North Carolina are expected at the 3-day event.
Lifeguard training
The Christiansburg Aquatics Center will host the American Red Cross lifeguard training in three different times beginning in December. The fee is $200 but will be waived if participant applies to work for the CAC.
Sessions are December 27-28, January 3-4 (both 9 a.m.-2 p.m.), and January 6 (8 a.m.-4 p.m.). Attendance to the entire session is mandatory.

Lewis ACC wrestler of week
Virginia Tech redshirt freshman Mekhi Lewis was named Co-ACC Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 4, after going 4-1 and placing second at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas this past weekend.
Lewis shared the honor with Pitt 133-pounder Micky Phillippi, who finished second in his weight class at the Cliff Keen Invite. Lewis defeated three ranked opponents, including two top 10 wrestlers, enroute to his appearance in the finals.
Fins Winter Break Camp
Registration is now underway for swim camp at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center. Campers, ages 6-11, will be able to swim, create art projects and play camps with friends January 2-4.

Hokie wrestlers place in Las Vegas
Competing in the nation’s toughest tournament outside of the NCAA Championships, No. 13 Virginia Tech had three wrestlers place at the Cliff Keen Invitational, which concluded on Sunday evening in Las Vegas, Nev.
Redshirt freshman Mekhi Lewis made a run to the finals at 165 pounds but was defeated by 10th-ranked Isaiah White of Nebraska by decision, 2-0. His second-place finish was the highest for a Tech individual followed by redshirt junior Zack Zavatsky’s fourth place finish at 184 and redshirt senior Tom Sleigh’s seventh place finish at 197.
The Hokies finished in a tie for 11th in the team standings with 84.5 points.
Orange Bowl honor
Following his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame last night in New York City, former Virginia Tech head football Coach Frank Beamer has been selected as an inductee into the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame, the Orange Bowl committee announced Wednesday.
Under Beamer, the Hokies went to four Orange Bowls in 1996, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Those four appearances were headlined by a 20-7 win over Cincinnati in the 2009 game, capping off a season where the Hokies went 10-4 and won its second consecutive ACC championship.
Fagan joins softball staff
Virginia Tech softball coach Pete D’Amour announced the addition of Sami Fagan to the staff on Wednesday, taking on the role as coordinator of player development. Fagan joins the Hokies after playing professionally in Japan for two years and in America for three years.
No stranger to high-level college softball, Fagan was an All-American at Missouri and graduated in spring 2016. The infielder earned All-SEC second-team honors twice (2015, ’16) and was the fourth overall pick to the Akron Racers in the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch Draft. Her first year in the NPF she earned Rookie of the Year.
Following her graduation in Columbia, Fagan played in the NPF and Japan Women’s Professional League. After her time in Akron, Ohio and Mooka, Tochigi, Japan in the summer of 2016, she also worked with the strength and conditioning staff of the Tigers’ athletics department the fall of 2016.
