New Year’s at CAC
Ring in the New Year from 5:30-9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center’s New Year’s Splash event. The evening will include a ball drop, a New Year’s “toast,” a water bouncer and visits from a mermaid and a pirate.
Tickets purchased before Dec. 30 are $5 for children and $10 for adults. Tickets purchased day-of are $6 for children and $12 for adults. Tickets are available for purchase at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

Kane honored
Former Christiansburg High School football player Xavier Kane has been named to the Virginia Independent Athletic Conference’s first-team at quarterback. Kane transferred two years ago to the Blue Ridge school and has guided the team to the state playoffs two consecutive years. Kane was also named to first-team at safety.
E&H nationally ranked
The Emory & Henry College Women’s Basketball Team rolls into final exams as the No. 25-ranked program in NCAA Division III, according to D3hoops.com. The Wasps have been ranked in the Top 25 nationally since the start of the season. E&H is also receiving votes in the WBCA Top 25 Poll.
Concord fifth in regional poll
The Concord University men’s basketball team moved up two spots to fifth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional Media Poll, the organization released Thursday morning.
The Mountain Lions received 26 points in the rankings and tied with East Stroudsburg for the fifth slot.
Indiana (Pa.) received all five first-place votes and 50 points to top the poll. West Liberty (43 points), Fairmont State (39 points) and Shippensburg (37 points) followed in second, third and fourth.
Concord and ESU tied for fifth. Mercyhurst (23), Notre Dame (15), Pitt-Johnstown (eight) and Virginia State (five) rounded out the weekly poll.
Winners of seven straight games, CU enters the Christmas Break with a mark of 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the Mountain East conference.
