The defending Class 3 state wrestling champion Blue Demons found things a little tough this year at the Virginia Duals in Hampton. When the dust cleared, they finished 1-2 in team play.
On Friday, the Blue Demons lost to St. Augustine Prep 42-27 and Smyrna 36-31 in the high school competition. In a consolation match, the team did pick up 59-12 win over Lafayette.
On the collegiate side of the mat, No. 13 Virginia Tech handed in-state foe Virginia a 37-5 defeat to win the 2019 Virginia Duals title at the Hampton Coliseum on Saturday night.
The Hokies (5-2) won nine of the 10 bouts with five going for bonus points. The win marked Tech’s fourth Duals title over the last six years and its second in the last three.
