John Russell Sankey, 79, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 at Commonwealth Memory Care Center in Radford, Virginia.
Born on Oct 2, 1939 to Evelyn Ruth (Kyser) Sankey and William Hazen (‘Bill’) Sankey in Akron, Ohio. He served his country as Captain in the United States Army for four years, held a degree in Physics from the University of Akron as well as a Master of Business Administration from Bowling Green State University. He was the President and CEO of Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, VA until his retirement in 2006.
He was a faithful and loving husband, son, brother and father that loved his family, many close friends and the game of golf. He was an active and faithful member of Blacksburg Christian Fellowship (BCF) for many years.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 15 years, Judyth (Pratt) Sankey; his children, sons Gary Sankey and Terry Sankey, Columbus, OH and daughter Kelly Bannister (David), Hoover, AL; his two sisters, Mary Brown (Rob), Tallmadge, OH and Cynthia Capaul, Copley, OH; and five grandchildren, Lauren Clowers (Addison) , Ali Sankey, Taylor Silverman (Sam), Erin Sankey and William Sankey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 39 years, Connie (Atkinson) Sankey.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
