Spring soccer season
The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team will be featured in the 2019 edition of U.S. Soccer’s Spring College Program, head coach Mike Brizendine announced Friday morning.
The program features rules in accordance with U.S. Soccer Development Academy standards, with seven substitutions being available, with no re-entry into the game.
The Spring College Program features two divisions, with the Hokies slotted in the North Division with Virginia, Pittsburgh and Georgetown. Each school will play each division opponent once with a classic scoring system, three points for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. Each team will make the playoffs and matchup with their counterpart in the opposite division who earned the same seed. Wake Forest will host one one-day event with all playoff games on April 13, signaling the conclusion of the program.

BAC closed
The Blacksburg Aquatic Center will be closed March 11-13 for repairs and refurbishing of the pool and other areas.
RU soccer camp
Radford University’s women’s soccer head coach Ben Sohrabi will host a clinic on Sunday, April 7 for players ages 13 and up at Cupp Stadium. The camps will focus on the technical and tactical aspects of the game.

New fitness class
A 30-minute morning focus on your midsection muscles is part of a new fitness class at the Blacksburg Recreation Center. A stronger core prevents lower back pain, enhances mobility and strength of surrounding muscles, and improves posture. Leave the class feeling stronger and ready to take on the day. Dates: Tuesday and Thursday. Time: 6:45-7:15 a.m. Cost: 13 time pass $25R/$35NR. Pass is good for one year and is interchangeable with other classes.

Race to benefit ACCE
The Inaugural Race for ACCE Montgomery County will take place Saturday, April 6 at Blacksburg High School from 9 am-noon.
This event is an opportunity for Montgomery County students, parents, business leaders and community members to support the ACCE program that provides Montgomery County Public school graduates and home-schooled student graduates with a 2.5 GPA and willingness to provide an annual 80 hours of community service.

Boating safety course
Boating Safety Course for Operators of Boats and Personal Watercraft will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 at the Montgomery County Government Center (755 Roanoke Street) in Christiansburg.
The course is taught by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 83 and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF).
Each graduate earns a wallet card showing successful completion of the class. This course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the United States Coast Guard. Materials and instruction are free of charge. Bring a pencil, highlighter, and lunch.

Shamrock 5K
The Shamrock 4 Miler and Lucky Leprechaun Dash is Sunday, March 17 on St. Patrick’s Day. This is race number two of the RunAbout race series. All proceeds benefit the Blacksburg High School track team
The Shamrock 4 Miler and Lucky Little Leprechaun Dash take place at Blacksburg High School off of Prices Fork Road. The race is on roads and bike trails and goes through the Stroubles Mill, Hethwood and Fox Ridge neighborhoods. All participants receive a long sleeve shirt.
Awards All finishers receive a finisher medal. Shamrock 4 Mile male and female top three overall awards. Age Group awards to top three. <13, 13-15, 16-17, 18-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 51-55, 56-60, 61-69, 70+
Awards given to the team with the most finishers and also for the fastest group (top five runners places are added together to form team score) in three categories: Business, VT affiliated group, Open (any group or club not business or VT related).
The best Costume Leprechaun wins a free pair of shoes from Blacksburg’s amazing running store, RunAbout Sports. The cost is $24 before March 6; $27, March 6-16; and $30 on race day.
