Principals Danny Knott of Eastern Montgomery High School and Brian Kitts of Blacksburg High School are moving from their long-time positions to new school administration functions.
Danny Knott, principal at Eastern Montgomery High School, will become the director of human resources.
“Knott’s 10 years of experience as a building principal, managing staff and students, make him the perfect fit for this position,” the Montgomery County Public School said in an online announcement.
Brian Kitts, principal at Blacksburg High School, will become director of student services with a targeted focus on school safety.
The division faces increased requirements and responsibilities surrounding school safety, and Kitts’s multi-level experience will be a benefit to the district in this new role.
Both will assume their new roles on July 1.
Stepping into the Eastern Montgomery High School principal role, Todd Lewis currently serves as the assistant principal there. He has eight years of experience in school administration, serving as an assistant principal and instructional supervisor, and 12 years of experience as a math teacher and instructional coach.
Lewis has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Radford University.

At Blacksburg, Tim Baynum is currently the school administrator at Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia. He was an assistant principal at Eastern Montgomery High School and at Auburn High School. Baynum has a bachelor’s degree in history from Guilford College, a master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia, and a doctor of education from the University of Virginia.
“I am thrilled to move back to Montgomery County and to serve the Blacksburg community,” said Baynum. “I have 18 years of experience in Montgomery County and the ability to return to the area and to work at Blacksburg High School is an incredible opportunity.”
