Artists, groups of artists, art teachers, and students working in any media are invited to submit a proposal with a conceptual design for consideration by a jury to “Simply Elemental,” the mid-summer outdoor art exhibit at the Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech.
“Simply Elemental 2019” is the fifth annual outdoor art exhibit integrated along the garden paths, plantings, and trees of the campus gardens.
Exhibit dates run from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30. Applications are due April 15, 2019. Concept submissions should include a sketch or photo of the planned work. All applications will be reviewed by a jury committee. Notifications of acceptance will be e-mailed by May 1, 2019. Questions may be addressed via e-mail to artinthegarden@vt.ed
Because this is an exhibit of relatively short duration, materials used in the pieces can be non-permanent, but need to hold up for a minimum of 8 weeks said the call for artists.
Pieces in the exhibit will be selected using the following guidelines:
- Uses the garden setting to advantage
- Makes a strong visual impact
- Non-harmful to the horticulture garden and its plants
- Appropriate to a family-friendly setting
- Requires no maintenance during the exhibit
- Installed in a secure manner
- Safe for the public
- Leaves no permanent impact on the garden
Installation dates are from July 25 to July 29, 2019 and take-down date: Oct 1 – Oct 7, 2019. The events opening reception is Aug. 4.
