Hallelujah! There’s a brand new Angel in Heaven and her name is Isabel!
Isabel Patricia Paterson Wesel of Blacksburg, Virginia moved to an even nicer neighborhood April 5, 2019. We wanted her to stay with us a little longer, but a higher authority had bigger plans for her. She made her debut appearance on July 25, 1922. She was one of nine children. She excelled in school and sports and also being a “little dickens.” She became a registered nurse, trained in New York City during World War II. She was graduated Summa Cum Laude from Roanoke College with a BS degree in Biology when she was 50. When you asked her how she was she’d always say “I’m cool.” She would stay in the rain or snow to watch the Hokies until the very last second!
She was our best friend and confidante, our nurse, our staunchest defender, our mentor and she was not afraid to apply a good swift kick to the seat of the pants when necessary. In short, she was Mom.
Her husband of 55 very busy years was Peter E. Wesel, Sr. predeceased her in 2000. She is survived by her seven children: Patricia J. and her husband Paul Snyderwine, Peter E. Wesel, Jr. and his wife Julie, Isabel S. and her husband Glenn Jussen, James A. J. Wesel and his wife Terri, Paul M. Wesel and his wife Donna, Philip D. Wesel and his wife Rainie, and Anne C. and her husband Joe Sheppard; Her hordes of grandchildren include: Becki Veber, Hether Veber, Claire Veber Richardson, Billi Veber, Nick Jussen, Jordan Wesel, Megan Wesel, Sabrina Wesel, Alex Walters, Brian Brumit, Becky Baker, Billy Fleming, Justin Sheppard and Claire Sheppard. Don’t stop now, there are great grandchildren too: Starr Sheppard, Allison Sheppard, Dayton Kidd, Karston Kidd, Landon McCoy, Rebekah Adams, Rachel Brumit, Ashley Baker, Chase Baker and Lincoln Baker. She is also survived by her sisters Charlotte Swift and Edith Yonker and her brother James Paterson.
She loved her family and her church and music, flowers, butterflies, rainbows and anything sparkly. She loved deeply and laughed often and cherished her faith in God. And no surprise here, she just loved kids! They made her world go around. We are so very lucky to have had her in our lives and she will always be a part of our hearts. We who knew and loved her know a secret… she was actually an Angel already, she has just gone home to heaven to watch over us all from God’s skybox!
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 10 at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
