Auburn’s Madelyn Ritter placed third in the discus at Saturday’s New River Invitational with a longest throw of 93-03. The event was hosted by Auburn High School but held at Christiansburg High School.

Auburn High School hosted the New River Valley Invitational track meet Saturday at Christiansburg High School. Runners dodged cloudbursts with Auburn claiming the girls’ title with 115 points. Floyd County was second with 89.5 points, and Giles third with 78.5 points. Christiansburg finished a close fourth with 71.5 points. Eastern Montgomery rallied for an eighth place finish.
Pulaski County took the boys’ team title with 124 points, while Christiansburg was second with 94. Floyd finished third with 81 points. Radford was fourth at 62, followed by James River (57) and Auburn (53). Eastern Montgomery finished in 11th place.
Grace Hall led Auburn girls’ contingent with a first place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:50.57. Christiansburg’s Kayla Waters was third and Auburn’s Hailey Wade fourth.
Caitlin Dominy won the 400 meter run at 1:03.23 and would follow that up with a third place finish in the 3200.
Radford’s Tyashia Gellner finished second in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles with Auburn’s Jessica Musselman in fourth.
Christiansburg’s Zoiee Kimbrough outdistanced Auburn’s Kara Ashworth and teammate Hannah Allen for the win in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles.
Eastern Montgomery’s Carli Osborne placed third in the high jump (4-04) at the New River Invitational.
In the girls’ 800 meters, Christiansburg’s Julia Moschella recorded a time of 2:25.84 to pull away with the win.
In the 3200 meter run, Floyd’s Solace Church outsprinted Christiansburg’s Maddie Yancey to the line for the win. Dominy was third for Auburn with Radford’s Emma Hastings-Crumney in fourth.
Auburn continued to rack up points on the girls’ side of the field with Madelyn Ritter winning the shot put and placing third in the discus.
Musselman would win triple jump and finsh sixth in the girls’ long jump as Gellner would leap 16-03.5 for the individual title. Christiansburg’s Antwanniquia Banks finished fourth.
Christiansburg’s Hannah Allen would finish in close second in the high jump with a leap of 4-10. Eastern Montgomery’s Carli Osborne and Payton Vishneski were third and fourth, respectively.
On the boys’ side, Radford’s B Davis started the meet off with a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. Ethan Mills started the distance success for unofficial host Christiansburg as he took the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:16.95.
J.W. Bethea of Radford would win the boys’ 400 meter dash, while Ethan Wilson of Christiansburg won the 800 meter run.
Cooper Neeble then gave Christiansburg another individual title with a time of 9:49.8 in the 3200 meter run. Peyton Hurd of Auburn was second and William Hartig of Radford fourth.
Christiansburg’s Xaver Wright placed 18th in the shot put and 7th in the discus throw at the New River Invitational meet on Saturday.
Christiansburg’s 4X400 relay team would also claim the top spot with Auburn in fourth.
Radford’s Dillon Whitt would finish second in the boys’ shot behind Auburn’s Zach McClellan who had a throw of 47-02. Whitt then turned around and took a fourth in the discus event.
Jesse Shelor of Auburn dominated the boys’ high jump at 6-01 with Radford’s Alex Roberts second at 5-04 feet.
