Christiansburg High School is seeking a new boys’ soccer coach after Michael Oliver stepped down earlier this week.
Oliver was the junior varsity coach for four years under Pete Johnson and Brian Smith. He took over as head coach in 2017 and finishes with an overall record of 12-37-3 at the varsity level.
“I am leaving CHS as a math teacher and soccer coach to go into business for myself,” Oliver said. He said that looking back, his time at CHS has been wonderful.
“The students and players I have worked with have brought great joy to my life and I’m very proud of their accomplishments. I’m excited to see the men they are becoming.”
“I’d like to believe that I have left the program with a hard working attitude and a culture centered around teamwork and common goals,” Oliver said.
He said he would not completely rule out a return to the sidelines later in life.
“It’s possible, but at this chapter in my life, I could no longer guarantee the time and level of commitment that this team needs. So, I believe it’s best to open the door for someone new to take over,” Oliver said.
The school is also looking for lacrosse coaches on both the boys and girls sides. Matt Heron stepped down at the end of the season after two years at the Christiansburg helm. Carla Corvin, coach of the girls’ team, also resigned at the end of its 0-15 season.
The Blue Demons were 2-11 in 2018.
