Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its June Fish Fry from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd, Blacksburg. All-you-can-eat fish, fries and slaw; Homemade desserts; and beverages. Adults-$8, children under 12-$4, (under 3)-free, carry-outs-$8. The Indian Run Stringband will be playing. Held rain or shine. Family Nerf Battle
Meadowbrook Public Library, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Outfit yourself with a Nerf gun or borrow one from the library. Extra ammo and snacks provided. “Elite” dart-style NERF guns only. Ages 6 years and up. Registration required.
Fireworks for VT Reunion Weekend

Free Summer Lunches
The Radford Public Library is proud to be hosting free lunches through the City of Radford again this summer! Please sign up if you are able so that we can have a good estimate of how many lunches we will need. Walk-ins are also welcome while supplies last. Lunch is free to ages 0-18, but is $3 for adults (exact change, cash only). Monday – Thursday, June 10 – July 11, 12 – 12:30 p.m.
Summer Lunch Program Reading Volunteers
The Radford City Schools Summer Meals Program is looking for volunteers to read stories to the children on the Bobcat Feed & Read Bus while they are eating their lunch. Books will be provided by Gloria Boyd. Volunteers will need to report to McHarg Elementary at 10:30 a.m. The bus will leave promptly at 10:45 and will return to McHarg at 2 p.m. Meals will be served at Fairfax Apartments, Willow Woods, River Bend, Shelter #1 at Bisset Park, Rustic Village, and the Radford Rec Center. We’re super excited that we’ve added three additional sites this year. Summer meals start on June 10 and run through July 24.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at Ray’s Restaurant on Rt. 221, north of Floyd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Discussion at this meeting will include the upcoming SCV/UDC picnic. Radford Senior Center will offer a free tatting class, at 1 – 3 p.m. with instructor Lois Banyai. This class will take you from an absolute beginner to a competent shuttle tatter. Juneteenth Celebration
Juneteenth is a traditional African-American commemoration of freedom from slavery. Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County branch of the NAACP will celebrate Juneteenth 11 a.m.- 4 p.m., at the Rosa Peters Playground, 300 Depot St. NE in Christiansburg. Music by Dynamic Sounds. Food available to purchase: Fish Fry by NRV Progressive Men’s Club, and the NAACP Youth Council will sell hot dogs, drinks and other snacks. Proceeds to be used for local youth activities and scholarships. Activities will include swimming, children’s games, cake walk, raffles and an informative program on Juneteenth. Various talents will be shared by community members. NAACP and other community organizations will have booths and provide valuable information. Entry is free. Come one, come all!

Entries needed for Blacksburg’s July 4th Parade
The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club is sponsoring the 33rd annual Blacksburg 4th of July Parade. They invite you to participate with your floats, bicycles, wagons, marchers, walkers, antique/classic cars, race cars, horses, fire engines, scouts, bands, sports teams, etc. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 at the Old Blacksburg Middle School on Eheart Street and will end on Alumni Mall on Virginia Tech’s campus.For information contact Gavin Faulkner at 540-449-6178 or gavin@rowanmountain.com.
