Working with LVNRV tutors, parents study topics such as the importance of reading with children, communicating with their child’s teacher and understanding school forms. While parents gain those critical skills, their children are engaged in fun book-themed learning activities with library staff and volunteers. Families then come together for storytime, English games, dinner and conversation.
“We are lucky to participate in the program,” said Yaping, a Blacksburg resident originally from China. “And we did learn a lot and have fun there.”
Family READS (Reading and English to Achieve Dreams and Success) will be held weekly at the Christiansburg Public Library.
Seven weeks of learning and fun each Tuesday.
From June 11 through July 23
