All-you-can-eat fish, fries and slaw, homemade desserts and beverages will be served at the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club’s September Fish Fry on Saturday, September 14 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter (1543 Mount Tabor Rd) in Blacksburg.
Dinners are $8 for adults, children under 12 for $4, free for kids under 3. Carry-out is $8.
Simple Gifts of the Blue Ridge will be serenading the crowd with “mostly traditional folk music from the Appalachian and Celtic cultures. Instruments include hammered dulcimer, guitar, flute, bass,” says the group’s website.
The last fish fry of the summer of this long-running tradition, will be held rain or shine under the picnic shelter below the lower church parking lot.
“We’ll start out sausage-gravy and biscuit breakfasts in October. The cannery in Wytheville has closed, so we will make apple butter in the Carroll County Cannery, but can’t get in there until the last week in October and the first week in November!” said Gavin J. Faulkner, the club’s public relations chairman.
