Saturday’s 2019 Blacksburg Brew Do will present an impressive line-up of culinary talent and craft beer experts. This year some 55 breweries will be on hand for attendees to sample.
Attendees looking to expand their palate, enrich their knowledge or enjoy a tasty treat can find all of that and more at the Kroger Cooking with Beer Tent and the Three Notch’d Homebrew Tent in downtown Blacksburg from noon to 5 p.m. (with premium admission at 11 a.m.).
The Cooking with Beer tent, sponsored by Kroger, will feature local chefs demonstrating their skills at incorporating the honored beverage of the day into their prepared dishes.
The schedule of events for the Cooking with Beer tent is as follows: 11:30 a.m.: beer and cheddar soup with Chef Scott Watson, Preston’s Restaurant; 12:30 p.m.: Brownies with Jack’s Java with Chef Samuel Martin, Three Notch’d Brewing Company; 1:30 p.m.: Sausage Cabernet with Chef Cody Shompson, Zeppoli’s Italian Restaurant; 2:30 p.m.: Lunch Pale Ale Butter Sauce with Chef Brady Stevens, Bull and Bones Brewhaus & Grill; 3:30 p.m.:Spicy Peanut Butter & Beer Jelly Sandwich with Chef Brady Stevens, Black Hen Restaurant.
This year Three Notch’d Brewing Company is sponsoring a crowd favorite, the Brew Tent. Local beer experts will lead discussions on beer and spread their knowledge and skills on the art of homebrew. The Brew Tent schedule for 2019 is as follows: 1:00 p.m.: Beer and Brewing Q&A Panel Hosted by Three Notch’d with Sam Sadovnic, Three Notch’d Brewer; Greg Zielske, Head Brewer, Eastern Divide; and Evan Graham, Brewer, Parkway; 2:00 p.m.: The Forever Changing World of Beer Trends and New Styles with Ann Sandbrook, Lab Specialist, Virginia Tech Department of Food Science & Technology; 3:00 p.m.: New Age Techniques for Recipe Formulation with James Frazer, Head Brewmaster, Beale’s Brewery and Trapezium Brewing Company; 4:00 p.m.: Barley and Malting for Brewing with Brian Wiersema, Pilot Plant Manager, Virginia Tech Department of Food Science & Technology.
Tickets for the 11th annual Blacksburg Brew Do can be purchased online or at both Blacksburg Kroger locations. Advance purchases are recommended, as day-of-event tickets will sell out quickly.
