On Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m., the Town of Blacksburg will unveil the first in what could be a series of creative public art projects on utility boxes in the downtown area
With permission from Virginia Tech Electric, the town solicited the help of local artist Nikki Pynn to develop a concept for the first box and to bring it to life through her own creative expression.
“I was inspired by the joyful feeling of the farmers market,” said Pynn. “I decided to focus on the feet of the characters, and made the bodies bigger to convey a message through body language.”
“We’re excited to partner with Nikki and our colleagues at Virginia Tech Electric to add yet another piece of art to the public spaces in our downtown,” said Matt Hanratty, assistant to the Blacksburg town manager.
The public and media are encouraged to join in the unveiling at Market Square Park on the corner of Draper Road and Roanoke Street.
