More than 2,500 Hokies will graduate Friday during Virginia Tech’s fall commencement ceremonies, held in Cassell Coliseum.
The University Commencement Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., and the Graduate School Commencement starts at 2:30 p.m. The events will honor 2,551 students who completed their academic degrees during the summer and fall terms.

During the University Commencement Ceremony, 1,350 undergraduates will be recognized for earning bachelor’s degrees.
John Seiler Ph.D. ’84, the Hon. and Mrs. Shelton H. Short Jr. Professor of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources and Environment, will speak at the ceremony.
Of the graduates, 322 earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
Business information technology is the most popular major, followed by computer science and computer engineering. The College of Science will feature the most undergraduates receiving degrees with a total of 282.
Additionally, Virginia Tech’s five other colleges will award the following bachelor’s degrees to summer and fall graduates: College of Agriculture and Life Sciences 157; College of Architecture and Urban Studies 64; Pamplin College of Business 234; College of Engineering 280; College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences 261; College of Natural Resources and Environment 72.
Virginia Tech will recognize 1,201 summer and fall graduates during the Graduate School Commencement. Patricia Raun, director of the Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech and a professor of theatre arts in the School of Performing Arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, will speak during the ceremony.
The graduate degree candidates include 732 master’s degrees, seven education specialist degrees, 318 Ph.D.s,and seven doctors of education.
A total of 137 students will receive advanced graduate certificates.
