Although the 2020 season came to an abrupt end, Radford senior infielder Hunter Mundy had one of the Highlanders’ biggest highlights Wednesday when she was named the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned a spot on the conference‘s All-Academic Team.
A scholar in the classroom and a gamer on the field, Mundy has a cumulative 3.93 GPA. She is majoring in political science with a double minor in criminal justice and international studies.
Just a week into the season, Mundy was named a Senior CLASS Award Top 30 Selection. The award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Recently, she was honored as the Radford University Political Science Department‘s Dean’s Scholar. This honor goes to only one senior per department who is an exemplary representative for the field of study.
Before the unprecedented end to the 2020 season, Mundy was batting .396 with three doubles and 14 RBIs. She was slugging .771 with a .474 on-base percentage and was the team leader in home runs with five.
Mundy’s All-Academic Team honors were the second straight year she has been so honored. The last time the Highlanders had the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year was in 2011 when Chelsa Kelley won the award.
