The Town of Blacksburg and the Town of Christiansburg are each holding fireworks displays on Saturday, July 4, but the towns have cancelled other annual Fourth of July festivities due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) precautions.
Fireworks provide an opportunity for residents to celebrate the Fourth of July while still maintaining healthy practices. Both localities encourage residents to enjoy the displays with their families and with proper social distancing. Most importantly, sick individuals are asked to stay home.
The Town of Blacksburg’s fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. from the Old Blacksburg High
School property on Patrick Henry Drive. Town officials are encouraging those who can watch the fireworks from their residences to do so. The fireworks can also be viewed from the Food Lion shopping plaza on the corner of Tom’s Creek and Prices Fork Roads. In case of rain, the fireworks will not be rescheduled.
Blacksburg’s annual parade and music festivities are cancelled.
The Town of Christiansburg’s fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. from a property off Peppers Ferry Road. Again, town officials are encouraging those who can see the fireworks from their residences to stay home. The fireworks will be visible from the New River Valley Mall and Walmart parking lots, and residents who travel to these locations to view the show are encouraged to stay in or near their vehicles. In the case of inclement weather, the Town’s rain date is Sunday, July 5.
The Town of Christiansburg’s annual downtown festival is cancelled.
