The Christiansburg Aquatic Center is now offering a fins summer care for families this summer. With very limited space, the fins camp will be available for children ages 6-9 only. Due to current events and guidelines, spots are very limited. Operational changes have been addressed and made clear in the camp packet.
The fee for Fins Summer Care is $85. Camp swim lessons will not be available this summer. At this time, Fins Summer Care Camp will be limited to 20 weekly participants running 7:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. The first weekly session of the camp began Monday, June 15. The sessions will continue through July 31. Drop-off begins at 7:45 a.m. and pick-up will begin at 4:30 p.m.
All campers must bring closed toe shoes, sunscreen (labeled with their name), a water bottle, a change of clothes, and lunch and snacks to camp every day. At this time, pool time is not allowed. If guidelines should change, parents will be notified of the schedule change. For right now, fins care will have an outside water day each Friday, weather permitting. Campers must arrive in swim suits and bring a towel and change of clothes on these days.
Campers will be divided into groups of 10 by age and will be assigned a group. Each group of 10 will be set for the week. Campers will interact and remain with the same small group and will be accompanied by the same camp counselors and camp helpers daily in their designated camp zone. The staff will encourage physical distancing and frequent hand washing/sanitizing to the best of their abilities. However, close interaction throughout the day and sharing during certain activities will not be completely avoidable and, with the nature of the program, will happen.
Camp staff will wear a face mask at appropriate times when inside the facility. Lunch and rest periods will take place in each group’s assigned zones.
Camp staff will carry a backpack complete with a full first aid kit at all times. The backpack will also carry any camper medicines as well as face shields and surgical masks should staff need to provide first aid. Each counselor will also have a radio for communication.
Registration for the weekly sessions will open up each week during the summer. To register and to check remaining availability, visit the center’s online registration system. Paperwork is due by 8 p.m. the Thursday prior to the attended camp week. Since space is so limited, it is advisable to check the registration system for the camp’s availability status prior to filling out all the necessary paperwork. Prior to registering for programs online, a household account must be created on ActiveNet at apm.activecommunities.com/christiansburg .
Packets and paperwork are not to be turned in until online registration is complete with payment. Completed forms should be emailed to jkowalcik@christiansburg.org as soon as possible and prior to the first day of camp. Payment and registration is mandatory prior to attendance. Please see the camp packet for more details. If you have any questions, please contact the program coordinator at jkowalcik@christiansburg.org or call (540) 381-7665 ext 3105.
