Cub scouts Alasdair and Breiton Hackworth show off the patches they earned from Pack 145’s coronavirus challenges.
COVID-19 couldn’t stop Christiansburg Cub Scout Pack 145.
Over the last fourteen weeks, the scouts along with their siblings and friends completed thirty-five challenges. Without school or sports and in the face of restrictions required by the pandemic, youngsters ages 3 to 10 provided photos as proof of the completion of any challenges so they could receive special patches. More than 1,000 stamps were needed to mail 394 patches with personal letters to the participants.
In May, visits were made to scouts’ homes to video from a safe distance their accomplishments. The challenge photos were edited into a two-minute video to celebrate their adventures since March.
Now that summer is here and Virginia is entering Phase 3, Pack 145 leaders are working to keep safe and healthy adventures going throughout the summer and to prepare for the 2020-2021 scout year.
Pack 145, which is sponsored by St. Paul United Methodist Church, has begun a recruitment campaign. New cub scouts can enjoy all of the pack’s summer and fall activities and can save $47.50 on the first five months of membership by joining before August 1.
