Friday, July 3
Town of Blacksburg offices closed
All town administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day, Saturday, July 4. Blacksburg community and aquatic centers will be open regular hours on Friday, July 3, will be closed on Saturday, July 4, and will be open on Sunday, July 5, from 1-5 p.m. Refuse and recycling pick-up will operate its normal schedule.
Christiansburg Town closures
Christiansburg Town Hall will be closed in observance of Independence Day. Solid waste normally collected on Fridays will be collected on Thursday, July 2, along with Thursday’s regular collection. Please place your carts out by 8 a.m. on Thursday.
The Christiansburg aquatic and rec centers’ administrative offices will also be closed on July 3, but their facilities will be open. The aquatic and rec centers will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

Christiansburg fireworks
On Saturday, July 4, a fireworks display will occur at approximately 9:15 p.m. from a property off Peppers Ferry Road. If possible, residents are encouraged to view the show from their homes. If you plan to view the display from the NRV Mall or Walmart parking lots, please stay in or near your vehicle and wear a mask if social distancing measures cannot be maintained. Individuals who are sick or who have been in contact with someone who is sick are asked to stay home. The Huckleberry Trail will be closed during the show. Per tradition, the fireworks show will be streamed live to the Town’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/CburgVAGov. In case of inclement weather, the Town’s rain date is Sunday, July 5. The annual Fourth of July downtown festival is canceled.

First Missionary Baptist Church New River reopens
Bless be the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we will reopen our church at 10:30 a.m. We ask that our church family and visitors wear masks and practice social distancing during the service. To God be the glory for carrying us during this pandemic, but we are not out of the woods yet, we are in his loving care.

A Facebook Live community meeting will discuss modernization and environmental projects and compliance and corrective actions at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

Town of Christiansburg Public Art Advisory Board
The Town of Christiansburg Public Art Advisory Board had its first meeting on Monday, June 22. The purpose of the Advisory Board is to advise and make recommendations to the Central Business District Committee regarding the promotion, support and value of public artwork as a means to beautify Christiansburg and promote creative place making within public spaces. The committee is composed of town council appointed volunteers who will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in the council chambers at Town Hall.
As the Advisory Board is new, its members are open to residents’ ideas and suggestions for art in public spaces in Christiansburg. To submit an idea, email publicart@christiansburg.org.
Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library is open to the public
All branches of Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library are now open to the public. This includes public computers, notary services and first-time passport processing. At this time we will not have in-person programming or accept donations or any community room reservations. Checked-out items that would have been due during our closure now have an extended due date of July 6. MFRL is not assessing fines on overdue days between March 16 and September 1. Children’s items are always fine-free.
RU Art Exhibit seeks regional entries
“More Leaves of the Tree,” a juried exhibition at the Radford University Art Museum’s off-campus Tyler Gallery will be featured in September. This exhibition invites regional artists to submit works made of leaves, depicting leaves, referring to leaves or metaphorically about leaves. The renowned environmental sculptor, Patrick Dougherty, will serve as juror; the exhibition’s Call for Entries can be found at ruarboreal.com/tree-news/, and its online submission deadline is July 20.
