The Planters Nutmobile and its three-person crew of (L-R) Talya Cohen (peanutter name Trailmix Talya), Allyson Toolan (peanutter name Almond Ally) and Owen Luterbach (peanutter name Pistachiowen) made a guest appearance Thursday at the Christiansburg Farmers Market.
Planters has three nutmobiles in its fleet. Luterbach said thousands of people apply every year for the nine positions available. Those selected spend a year traveling in the nutmobile. The vehicle this crew travels in weighs 13,000 pounds (or roughly three million peanuts) and is based out of Roanoke. The crew moves about the country, living on the road at motels and changing locations every two weeks or so.
The farmers market nutmobile was built in 2018 and is the newest of the three vehicles.
Why do it? “It’s fun,” Luterbach said. “My first car is a peanut, and my first job out of college is traveling the country.”
