As of Thursday, Oct. 1, the fourth of five phases of traffic control requiring road closure in Blacksburg was implemented for construction on the Virginia Tech Foundation – North End Development Project. The closure is anticipated to be in place for four weeks.
A portion of Turner Street between Prices Fork Road and Gilbert Street has been temporarily reconfigured to provide one-way traffic and angled on-street parking. Traffic can enter Turner Street (eastbound) from Prices Fork. Westbound traffic on Turner Street will continue to be detoured along Barger Street to North Main Street.
One lane of Gilbert Street will remain closed from the Turner Street intersection to the entrance of the parking garage. The traffic lane adjacent to the development will be closed, and the travel direction of the remaining lane will be reversed to provide one-way access toward Turner Street.
Motorists should look for detour signs. Access points on Gilbert Street and east of the closure on Turner Street will remain fully functional. On-street parking along the east side of Gilbert Street should be utilized in conjunction with the reversed flow of traffic.
