Capt. Charlene Cover recently reported to the Salvation Army of the New River Valley to serve as the pastor of the Salvation Army church on Roanoke Street in Christiansburg.
The NRV Salvation Army serves the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski, Floyd and Giles and the city of Radford.
Capt. Cover was born and raised in Port Antonio Portland, a small town in Jamaica. Prior to coming to Christiansburg, she served salvation armies in Parkersburg, W.Va., and Hagerstown, Md.
Her expressed passion is to “preach the gospel and meet human needs without discrimination” with the ultimate desire of “seeing people fully embrace God`s love.”
The Christiansburg Salvation Army church sponsors and runs five weekly soup kitchens, has red kettles placed throughout the New River Valley and sponsors the Christmas Angel to receive and distribute gifts at Christmas for children throughout the county.
