Coats or Kids Collection
The American Businesswomen’s Association (ABWA) Express Network of the New River Valley is coordinating the New River Valley Coats for Kids Collection 2020 for the Women’s Resource Center in Radford. They are collecting children and adult coats that are used or new. This year in addition to coats, they are looking to provide nice warm sweatshirts or sweatshirt jackets. Please consider donating your coats, jackets, or heavy sweatshirts to this worthy cause by dropping them off at any of the following locations:

2020 Montgomery County Christmas Store wish lists due
Volunteers will begin prepackaging shopping items on Nov. 1 from wish lists that were mailed to all eligible shoppers who came to the 2019 Christmas Store. Shoppers will not be able to come into the Christmas Store this year because of Covid-19. Instead, wish lists need to be returned in the prepaid stamped envelope so volunteers can begin the huge job of prepackaging clothing, teen gifts, toys, household goods and food. Shoppers have received a parking pass and appointment to come pick up their items starting Nov. 30. Please go to the website at www.mcchristmasstore.org for the latest information.

“Leaves of the Tree” in Covington Center for the Arts and “More Leaves of the Tree” at the 214 Tyler Avenue gallery are connected by a Tree Trail through RU’s lovely tree-filled campus. At whichever gallery you begin, you will get a free map with photographs and descriptions of 18 notable trees on campus. Glencoe Mansion Gallery Show by Portrait Artist Teresa Regil
Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the gallery show by portrait artist Teresa Regil, “A Painted Portrait of a Beloved. A Family Heirloom.” The show will be on display hrough Dec. 4. Regil is generously donating one of her paintings for a silent auction to help benefit the museum. The painting is her master copy of a work by her artistic inspiration John Singer Sargent. The piece will be open for bidding throughout the length of the show, and the winner will be announced at the end of the show. Everyone is welcome to visit the museum. There is no admission charge.

26th annual Hokie Harvest and cattle auction to go online for 2020
Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. through www.cowbuyer.com. 70 cattle will be auctioned. Proceeds from the sale are re-invested in Animal and Poultry Sciences departmental programs; more than $3.2 million has been reinvested since the first sale in 1995. To participate, registration is required on www.cowbuyer.com at least one hour before the sale to watch and bid online in real-time. If high-speed internet is not available, bids can be arranged via tel-o-auction. Before the sale, call Brubaker Sales at 540-908-5799 to obtain a bidder number. The online horse auction is typically a component of Hokie Harvest. This year, however, the online horse auction and Hokie Harvest are occurring separately.

Town Office Election Day closures
Town of Christiansburg facilities – including Town Hall, the Christiansburg Aquatic Center and the Christiansburg Recreation Center – will be closed for Election Day. Solid waste (garbage and recycling) normally collected on Tuesdays will be collected on Monday, Nov. 2, along with Monday’s regularly scheduled collection. Registration Due for Blacksburg Reverse Holiday Parade
Due to the impacts of Covid-19 and the Town of Blacksburg ordinance limiting gatherings to 50 people or less, the town will be staging a reverse parade where entries are stationary and spectators drive by to view them. Individuals and organizations are invited to participate in the 2020 Reverse Parade to be held on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is North Pole Fantasy. The Reverse Parade will be held along the 900 block of Patrick Henry Drive. Parade participants will form a line and spectators will be able to drive along the route and see the parade. To participate, submit the registration form by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020. Same-day in-house browsing and computer use appointments can be made Monday through Saturday on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Staff will continue to ask screening health questions, take temperatures and require masks be worn as part of the ongoing process of in-library browsing. Children/youth under 18 are welcome to browse when accompanied by an adult. For Grab and Go Prints, email the documents you would like printed to rad.lib@radfordva.gov, then call 731-3621 to make sure the document are received and schedule a time to pick them up at the building entrance. Prices are the same as usual ($0.10 for black and white, $0.25 for color), and exact change is appreciated when possible.
