The Town of Blacksburg and the COVID Crushers, a group of public health students at Virginia Tech, are hosting a virtual Halloween costume contest with the aim of having contestants demonstrate how they have incorporated their cloth masks into their Halloween costumes.
The contest is open only to New River Valley residents, and the best NRV costume and mask combinations will be chosen by the Crushers based on originality and COVID-19 safety.
Contestants enter by taking a picture of their Halloween costume to show how they incorporate their face mask into the costume. Contestants then caption their photo with how they are staying safe this Halloween. Finally, they tag and follow @COVID_Crushers on Instagram and use the hashtag #BeCommittedBeWell. Persons without Instagram may email their pictures and captions to covid19crusherws@gmail.com.
The costumes must be kid friendly. All entries must be in by midnight on Halloween (tonight). Only one submission per person is allowed.
The categories for the contest are kid’s division (under 18), college student division (must be enrolled in college) and adult community members division (18+ and not a student).
The winners will be announced on Instagram or via email on Nov. 2 at 5:00 p.m. First place in each category is a $250 gift card to a local business. Second place is a $100 gift card to a local business, and third place is a $25 gift card. Winners can pick up their gift cards on Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the COVID Crusher’s booth in downtown Blacksburg at the intersection of College and Draper.
