The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library has a November packed with special events and activities at various locations.
All month long, children can drop by the Meadowbrook Library in Shawsville for grab-and-go-crafts, free crafts that the children can take home to make. Each week will feature new crafts.
All month long the Blacksburg Library at 200 Miller St. will feature an exhibit titled Ali Wieboldt’s Jewelry Habitats. Wieboldt will be showing habitat boxes for her one-of-a-kind jewelry. On display will be miniature hand-painted portraits of birds and animals made into unique pins and pendants. These jewels are given homes in mixed-media shadow boxes that portray the environments where the creatures live.
StoryWalk will be offered all month long at the Christiansburg Library, 125 Sheltman St. Patrons get the chance to read while they walk.
The Junior Artist Program will take place all day on Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library in Floyd. The library has rotating art exhibits in “Miss Jessie’s Gallery” that change every two months. To encourage the youngest patrons to look at art and begin to engage with it, the library has brief question cards specific to each exhibit. There are cards available for children ages 2-4, 5-7 and 8-10. When five cards are completed the child gets a real artist sketchbook.
Celebrating Elephants at the Meadowbrook Public Library requires registration for a basket celebrating elephants with a stuffed parent and a baby elephant, books, a DVD and more. Registration begins Wednesday, Nov. 4, and goes through Friday, Nov. 21.
A virtual meeting of Talking about Books will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Christiansburg Library. This month’s book for discussion is Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk.

Also on Thursday, November 12, but at 2:00 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library in Floyd, Talking about Books will discuss Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. This has been described as a thrilling departure in that it is a short, piercing, deeply moving novel about the death of Shakespeare’s 11 year old son Hamnet, a name interchangeable with Hamlet in 15th- century Britain and the years leading up to the production of Shakespeare’s great play.
The MFRL Library gives patrons a chance to find out if they are smarter than a librarian with an online challenge on Wednesday, Nov. 4., at 1:00 p.m. Patrons can play against their own librarians and find out who is smarter. Email shodges@mfrl.org for info.
A Saturday Creative Writing Group will meet on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Public Library and again on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the same time and in the same place. Participants should bring samples of their work for small-group feedback and editing. This group meets regularly on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Caturday, on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Public Library and on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 pm. at the Christiansburg Library gives participants a chance to read to a cat from the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center. Sign up at the front desk for a 15-minute slot to practice reading and to help socialize shelter cats. All ages are welcome.
Teen Dungeons and Dragons will be played on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2-4 p.m. at the MFRL Library online and again on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the same time on line.

Dinovember Kits will be the fun of the day on Monday, Novemb. 16, at 10:00 a.m. at the Christiansburg Library Pick up this program to go and make frozen dinosaur eggs, dino bones, and more. Supplies are limited.
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Library. The book to be discussed is The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin. Call ahead to reserve a copy. Discussion will be both in person and virtual.

Virtual Book Talk will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. until noon at the Christiansburg Library. Going Clear by Lawrence Wright will be discussed virtually.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Christiansburg Library, the Art Club will hold a virtual meeting at which participants will learn about the history of weaving and then try their hands at cardboard circle weaving.
