The Blacksburg High School boys and the Auburn High School girls won state tennis championships this past weekend.
The Bruins won the Class 4 competition while the Auburn girls won the Class 1 title. For Auburn, Sara Nichols took the individual title and teamed with Anna McGuire.
Nichols beat Mathew’s Connie Johnson 6-1, 6-2. She finished her high school career with seven state titles scattered over two sports, volleyball and tennis, and an overall singles and double record of 38-5.
Radford’s Jonathan Gilmore and Harper Minarik claimed individual championships in Class 2. Minarik also won the doubles championship with teammate Trinity Adams.
Gilmore defeated Stuarts Draft’s Mark Gordon 6-2, 6-0.
Blacksburg’s Sammy Xiang won individual gold in the Class 4 competition by defeating Powhatan’s Jacob Pfab 6-3, 6-0.
