After missing a year because of the pandemic, the Christiansburg Lions Club will present its annual Holiday Christmas Craft Show on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.
Some 145 vendors promise to make this one of the biggest and best shows ever for Christmas shopping. The Lions Club Snack Bar will be up and running to keep shoppers from getting hungry and to spare them the trouble of having to prepare lunch at home.
As usual, the craft show will offer such Christmas gift items as handmade jewelry, handmade wood crafts, homemade baked goods, and original pictures and paintings by local artists.
The Holiday Christmas Craft Show is the Lions Club’s major fundraising event of the year. All of the day’s proceeds support local special projects such as the club’s vision screening and vision efforts that help, among others, local school children. Proceeds also support International Lions Club projects such as a Leader Dog for the Blind, Diabetes Awareness and Prevention, and children’s programs around the world. The proceeds will be used to offer financial support for victims of crises around the world such as earthquakes and hurricanes.
The proceeds will also be used locally to support the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program, the Christmas Store, scouts, Boys and Girls State for high-school students, scholarships for local high-school students, and the local rescue and fire departments, among others.
The men and women of Lions International seek to make a difference in the needs and cares of people around the world, close to home in the immediate Christiansburg area, the New River Valley, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The motto for the 1.4 million Lions in more than 200 countries that make up Lions International is “We Serve.” Along with those Lions, the Christiansburg Lions Club accepts the responsibility to be in service and concern for the needs of others.
Ahead of the show, the local club sends out special thanks to the vendors who make the craft show possible and the shoppers and supporters who come to the show, buy, and take home as gifts the crafts available for sale.
At the show, the club will have signs and publicity to recognize the businesses and groups in Christiansburg who support the Holiday Christmas Craft Show financially.
