The new Blacksburg Police Department building wasn’t the only scene Wednesday, June 22, of a ribbon cutting as the members of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce cut a ribbon at 9 a.m. at the museum’s new location, 4 East Main St. in downtown Christiansburg.
The ceremony began a day of festivities for the museum. It was followed by the sharing of coffee and pastries provided by Brugh Coffee and Bollo’s Cafe & Bakery. Aloha Eddie’s and Sam’s Hot Dog Stand Blacksburg joined the celebration by kicking in with some food and desserts.
At 10 a.m., a bouncy house was placed on-site in the back parking lot and provided fun for children and the young at heart until 3 p.m.
At 12:30 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m., the fun continued with Storytime for Children with Joelle Kathryn Shenk. A children’s museum was on hand with coloring books and a “What would you put in your museum?” activity until 2 p.m.
A bubble machine in the back parking lot provided more fun for children, who also had some fun with face painting until 3 p.m.
At 4 p.m., a bonus “happy hour” signaled the official opening of a free art show that displayed the work of 27 artists from across the New River Valley. A meet-the-artist reception then capped off the day’s activities.
